Shell Addition in Chevy Chase

This slab on grade shell addition in historic Chevy Chase features
clad Andersen windows with FSC certified wood, waterproofing and insulating
renovations to the existing foundation wall and engineered floor joists to open
the interior space. The exterior finishes had to closely match existing areas.
Stucco over framing was applied to the new first floor exterior and new
retaining walls help to manage water on the site. The project was completed in about 2 month’s
time, allowing the family to move into part of the house while the finish
construction was completed.

The existing concrete slab was broken up with a jackhammer and hauled away for recycling. Material donations to Community Forklift included French doors, miscellaneous lumber and millwork. One window from the house was salvaged and reused in the bedroom wall.
